QBE Insurance | VeloCloud SDWAN Network Modernisation

Client Overview:

QBE Insurance is a global insurance company headquartered in Australia with contact centres and branch offices worldwide.  QBE Insurance faced several challenges with its ageing WAN infrastructure that were comprised mostly of legacy hardware.  Sydco Networks were engaged to assist them with their network modernisation initiative.

The Challenge:

  • High Operational Costs: The MPLS network was expensive, especially with the increasing number of branch offices and remote locations.
  • Network Performance Issues: As more applications moved to the cloud, the network struggled to handle the traffic, resulting in latency and performance bottlenecks.
  • Lack of Flexibility: The network was not agile enough to support dynamic cloud application requirements, remote office needs, or temporary high-demand scenarios.
  • Limited Visibility and Control: The company had limited insight into the performance of its network or the ability to prioritize and route traffic based on application needs.

Solution:

Sydco Networks designed and implemented a highly robust and redundant VeloCloud SD-WAN solution to address these core challenges.

  • Reduce Operational Cost: Use multiple types of internet connections (e.g., broadband, LTE, MPLS) to optimize network traffic.
  • Optimise Network Performance: Provide application-aware routing to prioritize important business traffic (such as VoIP or video conferencing) over less critical traffic.
  • Improved Flexibility: Enable secure direct-to-cloud connectivity for remote offices and employees. Load balance traffic for high-demand scenarios.
  • Improve network visibility and control: with centralized control through the VeloCloud Orchestrator for monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance analytics.

Results

  • Cost savings: The company reduced its reliance on costly MPLS circuits by shifting many of the branch locations to business grade internet, resulting in significant cost savings.
  • Improved application performance: Cloud applications like Office 365, Salesforce, and VoIP saw a noticeable reduction in latency and better performance.
  • Optimized network traffic routing: SD-WAN allowed traffic to be dynamically rerouted across the best-performing path (MPLS or broadband), ensuring lower latency for critical applications.
  • Network visibility: The centralized VeloCloud dashboard provided real-time insights into network performance, traffic patterns, and application usage, helping IT teams identify and address potential issues faster.
